The grey matter appears
to have "broken up".
Note the continuity of the white matter from the left lateral to the right ventral aspect. We can imagine a similar continuity between the right lateral to the left ventral side, across the median fissure. This is the deccusation of the pyramidal tracts.
The arrangement of the dorsal columns is more or less the same as in the spinal cord (black outline), with the demarcation between the fasciculi gracilis and cuneatus.
The area in the blue outline is comparable to the tip of the dorsal horn of grey matter (substantia gelatinosa) in the spinal cord. Here it appears very similar - this is the spinal tract of the trigeminal nerve and its nucleus.
The other tracts have an arrangement on similar lines to that in the spinal cord.
The section is through the caudal end of the medulla oblongata, at the level of the pyramidal deccusation.
