If you see a ventral view of the brainstem you will see that the middle cerebellar peduncle is more towards the caudal side

of the pons. A section through the rostral part of the pons does not show the continuity between the pons and the middle cerebellar peduncle.

Note the numerous bundles of the descending pyramidal fibres interlacing with the transverse fibres and the pontine nuclei in the basilar part.

Another feature of this rostral section is the superior cerebellar peduncle (A). Note how it is 'preparing to close' the fourth ventricle. Note this position and correlate with the midbrain section later.

The tegmental structures have a pattern similar to the earlier section.
