There are two methods of uploading your website files via FTP. The first method is the simplest, will work from computers within the department,
but may not work outside the department in all cases. Method two involves a slightly more complex
procedure, but is guaranteed to work from external locations.
Method 1
- Open Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator and go to the following address ftp://www.lab.anhb.uwa.edu.au
NOTE: If you receive an error after clicking the above link, try clicking your Refresh/Reload button on your browser
- After a brief wait, you should be prompted for a username and password. Enter the
username and password that you use to log on to the computers in the department. NOTE: The username needs to be of the form
ANHB-LAB\your username. If, after
entering your username and password, you receive a strange error message, or you are not
prompted for a username and password, then Method 1 will not work for you, hence skip to Method 2.
- Once you have successfully logged on, create a new folder. To create a new folder, select
"File" menu -> "New" -> "Folder". For the name of the folder, type your name.
After creating the new folder, double-click on the folder. You can now simply, drag-and-drop your entire website
(files and directories) from your hard drive into this directory.
Method 2
- Download the WS_FTP client, by clicking this link to a directory
on your hard drive, then double-click on the file to install it.
- Once you have installed WS_FTP, run the program. You will be prompted with a "Session Properties" box
prompting you for various bits of information. Fill out/check the boxes, so as they EXACTLY match the following.

- Click "OK". You will then be prompted for a username and password. Enter the username and password
that you use to log onto the computers in the department. The username needs to be of the form
ANHB-LAB\your username
- Once you have logged on succesfully, you will see two file listings. The left side is your computer (local)
and the right hand side is the FTP site (remote). Click the "MKDir" button on the right-hand side
(remote) to create a directory on the server. Use your first and last name as the name for the folder.
- To "upload" your files, simply drag-and-drop files and/or directories from the left hand side to the directory
you created on the right-hand side
Once you have finished uploading your website files, you can view them via this
link.
